From our Urban Coffee HQ

So we have some breaking news. As you may have seen, we were applying for an alcohol license. Well, we got it and now you may be wondering what are our plans are. Are we going to become a late night drinking den? Well no, far from it.

We have had this in the plan from day 1 – we want Urban Coffee to be a place for before work, during work and after work.

So we plan to open Wed, Thur & Fri evening until 9:30pm for an after work drink, be that one of our great coffees or a glass of wine.

Imagine this: we dim the lights, add a candle to your table, put the wine & beer on ice and you supply the good company. No loud music, just a great atmosphere for catching up with friends over a drink.

So that’s the plan – launch date of this to be confirmed but likely to be end of Jan.

Well recently we haven’t told you much about our plans beyond our Church Street emporium. The cunning plan is to open more emporiums in the midlands, but this doesn’t mean there will be one on every corner because we want to be a destination place rather than a place of convenience.

We are currently in talks with a developer who has approached us to open an emporium in a new development in Coventry. We should know this month if this is going ahead and so will keep you posted – this could be our difficult second albumn.

Rather more rapidly than we anticipated!!

So we thought we better let everyone know our Christmas Opening Times….

24th Dec:Open 7.30am-4pm
25th-28th Dec: Closed
29th-30th Dec: 7.30am-6pm
31st Dec: 7.30am-4pm
1st Jan: Closed
2nd &3rd: 10am-5pm
4th Jan onwards-normal business resumes

We’ve got everything from glittery mince pies, to brussel sprout soup (yes-its yummy with mint and rosemary!!) and we’re finally embracing the christmas spirit-we’ve even got a Christmas Tree!!

Our latest filter coffee comes from the Hacienda La Esmeralda farm in Panama. Panama is located in Central America, bordering both the Caribbean Sea and the North Pacific Ocean, between Colombia and Costa Rica.

The farm is run by Price, his wife Susan, and his son Daniel. His daughter, Rachel, works on marketing and sales (picture of family below).

The coffee is grown from 3,300 feet to 5,000 ft in several owned or controlled parcels, half of which are either in forest reserve or National Park. The farm has 134 ha. of coffee in production.

The beans are almost entirely of the Catuai varietal which comprises of approximately 70% of the crop. In the cup you get really strong vanilla, with walnut and chocolate, just like a walnut whip. The vanilla lasts all the way through what is a delicious coffee.

We only have one batch of this so get it while it lasts!!

Some of our more observant customers may have noticed a new piece of furniture upstairs in the book corner of our store. Well, we thought it was about time that we explained ourselves and who better to do so than the Birmingham based entrepreneur and Co-Founder of www.bean2bed.com, Matt Roberts:

Once you’ve experience the Bean2Bed you’ll realise that it doesn’t actually contain any beans, rather a superior CMHR foam filling providing cloud-like comfort that moulds to the contours of your body. Please try not get crumbs from those wonderful scones on our beloved Bean2Bed but, fear not, if the worst happens the outer cover is fully machine washable!

We’re certainly not in a Bah Humbug spirit and, in fact, because all our products are made to order here in the UK we can only guarantee pre-Christmas delivery on orders received by Monday 14th December!
