Not So Fading Cadence

From our Urban Coffee HQ

From time to time we have live music at Urban Coffee and back in January Faded Cadence played an acoustic set. We were so impressed with what we heard we decided to sponsor their next track.

Now we wouldn’t claim to be music experts, but we think they may be the next big thing and best of all they are local – all Brum.

We are not the first people to recognise their potential, see what others have said:

“These guys have pure talent”
Alex Baker, Kerrang! Radio

“Local heroes”
Birmingham Mail

“I think Faded Cadence could turn out to be really big!”
Andy Nash, Beacon Radio

Why not go check out their new Urban Coffee sponsored track called “The Valediction” on their MySpace page? You can also see the video of the making of it on their YouTube site.

I am sure they will be back to play at Urban Coffee again before they get too famous!

Welcome to Hannah!

From our Urban Coffee HQ

You may have noticed a few new faces mixed in with the usual ones this week. We are happy to welcome a new member to our team in the form of Hannah. So as part of her initiation into being a fully fledged urbanista we asked her to share some unusual facts about herself with us all and forced her under much distress to have her picture taken!

1. She once went clubbing with the presenter of ‘Homes under the hammer’.
2. If she was a doughnut she would be filled with custard.
3. She travelled the world for 4 years mostly tasting wine.
4. She lived in South Africa for nearly 2 years.
5. Even though she thinks she looks about 12 she is actually a very mature 24!
6. Her favourite food is cheese.
7. She owns a dwarf hamster.
8. She once killed a kangaroo…by accident!
9. She enjoys hiking.
10. She rides horses and loves the races!

Customer Kings – shortlisted

From our Urban Coffee HQ

Real Business magazine and Cisco have been searching for this year’s Customer Kings.

“The one question perplexing entrepreneurs, marketers and PRs will be: what are we looking for in a winner?

The answer is pretty simple: we want to see evidence of customer engagement. A Customer King does more than sell products. Great brands make their customers feel like a part of the wider brand experience.”

The judges, Simon Nixon, founder of online price comparison site Moneysupermarket and SimonSeeks.com, Cisco’s David Critchley, Real Business’ Charles Orton-Jones and, Tricia Philips, business, careers and finance editor for The Daily Mirror have shortlisted Urban Coffee Company for the Customer Kings award. See the full list of shortlisted companies here.

Our Daniel is a bit of a nutcase…

From our Urban Coffee HQ

Hello, I’m Daniel.

You’ll generally find me behind the counter at Urban Coffee from Wednesdays through the weekend. I’ve been asked to write a short paragraph to introduce 10 things you (hopefully) won’t already know about me. If you did already know these things about me, we probably need to have a little chat…

Here they are:

1. I Speak Welsh. (My favorite two words in Welsh are Bara Brith).
2. If I was a crayon, I’d be orange
3. I have lived in both the UK’s biggest and smallest cities
4. Worked in Buenos Aires & Christchurch, NZ.
5. Likes eating Urban Coffee’s left-over porridge for lunch
6. Believes that vegetables are at their best when they’re steamed.
7. Has 28 pairs of socks, which is, incidentally, the amount of years he has lived
8. People in animal costumes make him laugh
9. Favourite Joke: Why aren’t there any pain killers in the jungle? Because the parrots-eat-’em-all.

10. I Support Swansea City Football Club.

Alcohol Update

From our Urban Coffee HQ

Just for those who are getting a little bit edgy wondering whether we shall ever fulfil our promise of Alcohol coming to Urban Coffee Company…

So far all is going to plan, although a little slower than we would have liked. Personal Licenses are waiting to be had, but once they have arrived, we shall have an extremely quick turn around to get you that sweet nectar that is beer, wine and cider!!

We’ll have some obvious favourites for those who know what they like, but we will have a small range of lesser-known beers, ales and ciders, for those who are feeling a little more adventurous!

Don’t fret-we’ll keep you posted!!

From our Urban Coffee HQ

Everyday we randomly pick a lucky winner to receive a free hot drink of their choice and the opportunity for five of their colleagues to enjoy a hot drink for only £1.00!!

So if you haven’t popped your card into the draw-get to it! You never know when it might be your lucky day and one of us could be delivering coffee to your desk!

Don’t worry if you don’t answer the phone when we call-we will just pop the card back into the jar and hopefully you will be lucky again!
