We’re going to be closed on Sunday 4th April, and our opening hours on Monday 5th will be 10am-5pm. However, there’s still plenty of time for you to come in and munch on some of our easter goodies, from our Easter Chocolate Loaf Cake to our Bunny Muffins!!

Have a great Easter everyone!

Alcohol at Urban Coffee gets the Thumbs Up!

From our Urban Coffee HQ

Well we had our alcohol launch on Wednesday, and i’m sure you’ll all be pleased to know that it went very well!!

Those of you who came, i’m sure, were happy with your goody bags that included a bag of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee (from our wonderful coffee suppliers ‘Absolute Coffee’), and a couple of vouchers to use in store at Urban Coffee Company. We also went round with lovely mini cupcakes from the ladies at ‘Kiss Me Cupcakes’ and samples of the ‘Purity Ale’ ‘Mad Goose’ and ‘UBU’ (whom to both companies we are extremely grateful for).

The night was a great success and we hope that slowly but surely, everyone will get used to the idea of having a great cup of coffee with a cupcake, followed by a beer to send you off into the night!

Party Time!

From our Urban Coffee HQ

Right, as many of you may already know, we have started serving Alcohol Wed-Fri evenings from 5.30pm-9.30pm.
Well it’s now time to push the boat out and really give you guys a reason to come visit us on a week night for some sociable drinking! We’re having a party from 6pm-9.30pm this Wednesday (24th) and for the first lucky few, we will have a goodie bag!
We shall also be wondering around with mini ‘kiss me cupcakes’ and samples of Purity Ale for you all to try for free!

And if this isn’t enough to convince you, we shall also be giving out raffle tickets to everyone that buys an alcoholic beverage to be in with a chance of winning a Purity Ale gift set!!

We look forward to seeing you!

Happy St Patrick’s Day

From our Urban Coffee HQ

We like to try new things here at Urban Coffee Company but this time I think this may have gone a little too far!
Jamie one of our Urbanistas, wanted to participate with today’s celebrations in the Colmore Row Business District. We have seen the Guiness flowing at both Bar Utopia and Hotel Du Vin so what were his thoughts? Yes you’ve guessed it……green coffee!
Do not worry we haven’t let him anywhere near your lovely coffees with the green food dye but we had to let him have his fun on his own!

So far so good!

From our Urban Coffee HQ

I am nearly at the end of the next book club book which is ‘What was Lost by Catherine O’Flynn’. An easier read than the previous choices but I just haven’t had the time to read it in a couple of sittings.
The next book club is on Thursday 25th March at 6pm. We meet upstairs at Urban Coffee Company, enjoy a coffee and have an enjoyable chat about our chosen book. Come along if you fancy doing something new on a Thursday!

Grounds – News Club

From our Urban Coffee HQ

Grounds has been operating in Urban Coffee since January this year. Grounds is a hyperlocal blog, centred on the Colmore Business District of Birmingham.  They are also a club, open to all who want to learn more about journalism.

They plan to launch a print version in the near future. So if you have some local news then contact the Ground team.

The Art of it

From our Church Street Emporium

The keen eyed amongst you will have noticed that we have had some great Art on the walls of Urban Coffee since opening. The art was created by the very talanted, Erdington based artist called Artskki.

Artskki specialises in oil on canvas with a particular flair for painting local buildings. All the paintings in Urban Coffee are for sale via Artskki’s website so if you see something you like snap it up.

Don’t forget Mothers Day!

From our Urban Coffee HQ

Just a quick reminder to you all that it is Mothers Day on Sunday. As like any other Sunday we will be open as normal from 10am – 5pm. So if you bring your mom into the city for the day and she fancies a piece of delicious cake and a great coffee, why not pop by!

Have your say!

From our Urban Coffee HQ

We are always looking for feedback from our customers and now have our very own feedback box.
If you have a a spare couple of minutes while your drinking your coffee just fill out one of the small cards and pop it into the suggestion box located on the table at the top of the stairs!
We look forward to receiving your comments!

Flat White – What’s the fuss?

From our Urban Coffee HQ

You could be forgiven for thinking Flat White is a new coffee drink that’s only just arrived on our shores. Well it’s not! It originates from Australia and New Zealand and has been around for years. Urban Coffee has been serving it from day 1 and all Urbanistas are trained to make them.

So why have the high street chains suddenly introduced it to their menu? Well Starbucks introduced it in December 2009 & Costa in January 2010. Now I don’t think that is a coincidence, I would suggest that Costa planned their launch first and Starbucks got wind of it and beat them to it. But why introduce it at all? Well the cynic in me would suggest that they are now realising that there is not much difference between the high street coffee chains and they needed something to differentiate them from each other. But the two chains, by both introducing the Flat White, have cancelled out any differentiation so the status quo remains.

Our approach is to have a superb product with superb service-that’s how we roll at Urban Coffee!
