You may have heard, but It’s Christmas (nearly) And, this Wednesday we’re really getting in to the holiday spirit here at our lovely Jewellery Quarter Emporium as we screen Frank Capra’s charming classic ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’.

We will be serving hot dogs, and other hot food  so in case you don’t have time for dinner you can still get some grub and we are licensed for that night so why not treat yourself to wines, ales and all sorts of mulled goodies! Doors will be open from 6pm, film start 7pm with a small well placed interval for that all important top up and toilet break.

£5 will get you in with a hot drink and popcorn. Reserving and paying in advance (at either store) will guarantee you entry and a decent seat, otherwise just like Haloween  you can turn up on the night and pay, but please be aware the best seats will be first come first serve!

Now what could be better then getting cosy with some mulled wine and a warm mince pie and letting James Stewart get you in the festive mood!!

Okay, so it’s December…we can just about believe that & it’s what, two weeks till Christmas…. Yep, we can just about believe that too. But the fact that in 2 days our gem in the Jewellery Quarter is one year old… Now, that can’t be true?!

But guys, it is!

The planning is all under-way for the Big Birthday Bash on the 14^th of December. We will have music, festive treats, games & we’ve even got a temporary alcohol licence (which should help with the sponsored “Sit on Angry Santa’s” knee – We don’t have all the details of that yet, but hey it’s going to be great)

We are going all out to say thank you and Merry Christmas to all you lovely people who make everything possible & to celebrate our big Birthday. What’s more we will be launching proper our Christmas and New Year Fund-raising Appeal which will be running through December and January, raising money to give two previously homeless people the chance to change their lives in 2012 with Frost and Snow Cupcake Bakery.

So keep the evening of the 14^th free tell your friends and family too. More info will be coming out next week!!!!

Carl Booth’s ‘Scribbleffiti – Reclamation’ has proven a hard artistic act to follow in the Jewellery Quarter, but we think we may have found a worthy successor to adorn our lovely JQ walls…

Winnie O’Brien is a designer, illustrator, animator and writer who has won many awards for her work including a Broadcast Designers Award and an Emmy for Animation. 

Winnie’s artwork has appeared in feature films, TV, books, commercials, music videos, magazines, interactive DVDs and installations, public spaces and private collections. She is currently focussed on writing and illustrating picture books for children.

During the design process, she loves the magic that happens when two quite different thoughts, words or images come together and spark a new idea. She believes that the key to creativity is a sense of curiosity, a joy of experimentation without fear of making mistakes and an adventurous spirit.

Starting from the 7th October, Carl will be handing over the art torch to Winnie, so make sure you catch the last week of the fantastic ‘Reclamation’ before the different but equally wonderful ‘Conversations’ takes over!

Those of you who frequent our #JQ Emporium on a regular basis will have realised that we have some fantastic new art work up! We loved the previous photos from Richard Palmi, but we’ve decided to make our Emporium a little coffee-based art gallery, where we will allow local artists to take it in turns displaying their work.

For August, Carl Booth, an artist and illustrator from Birmingham, will be displaying a whole showcase of his work on the walls of our Jewellery Quarter store from 5th-27th August.

The ‘Scribblefitti’ he creates is genuinely amazing and definitely worth checking out on his website www.scribbleffiti.com

On his blog Carl states, “I am very excited! This will be my first solo exhibition, so please come along I would love to share my work with you, all of the art work will be for sale along with the excellent coffee and a wonderful array of other things to eat and drink.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!

So you may recall that we took part in the Birmingham Jazz Festival last year at our Church St Emporium and we decided that seeing as it was such a great success we’re going to do it again! This time however, we’re going to do it at our new Jewellery Quarter Emporium (we can’t let #CS have all the fun!)

So pop along for a great relaxed atmosphere, some Pimms, Purity Ale or Organic Cider (if you’re coffee’d out!!!) to see Will Scott from the USA perform live for free!!!

Thank you so much to everyone who came along and supported us at the Launch of the Jewellery Quarter store. After much anticipation the night was fabulous.

As ever it was a real treat to be able to say thank you to all of you lovely people who have supported us throughout our young life…. it sounds cheesy but it really is you people who make it all worth while.

Also a big thank you to all of our suppliers who were great as ever.   From Kiss Me Cupcakes wonderful little bites jelly rings to Purity Brewery’s drinks and good ol’ Clams Homemade Cakes it really was a delicious evening… What’s more for one night only we were able to introduce Cofftails to the JQ a chance for our Urbanistas to really use their imaginations mixing wonderfull espresso with Liqueurs and cream… yum yum!!!

So yes, thank you!!!

We can’t wait until we can find another excuse to throw a party, but until then we hope to see you soon in one of our emporiums, pop in and say hello!

So we had a little soft launch in December, but we’re now doing the OFFICIAL LAUNCH! (Yes-another excuse for a party!!)

Wednesday 16th February will be a great night of fun and partying to celebrate us opening another Urban Coffee Co. We’re very proud of ourselves for managing it, but want to thank all you lovely customers for helping in our growth and expansion-definitely couldn’t have done it without you!

So watch this space and save the date!!
